"This cookbook is a welcomed change from Tony’s previous cookbooks. We have our kitchen jam-packed with various appliances, and air fryer has been wrongly ignored for a long, long time before. Now it’s one of the most used appliances in our kitchen, and I’m going to prove fried foods can and have to be healthy as well as tasty. If you buy this cookbook, try Salmon and avocado salsa, Chicken and radish mix, Beef fillets with garlic mayo, and make sure you follow the instructions accurately – this is the only way for you to get the expected outcome."

  • This cookbook is a welcomed change from Tony’s previous cookbooks. We have our kitchen jam-packed with various appliances, and air fryer has been wrongly ignored for a long, long time before. Now it’s one of the most used appliances in our kitchen, and I’m going to prove fried foods can and have to be healthy as well as tasty. If you buy this cookbook, try Salmon and avocado salsa, Chicken and radish mix, Beef fillets with garlic mayo, and make sure you follow the instructions accurately – this is the only way for you to get the expected outcome.
  • Easy everyday suggestions to make your life better. I've already been able to tackle about half a dozen of these recipes, and all of them were not only edible but delish and enjoyable too. I may seem like an overachiever but these recipes were cooked in one day, and yes, I managed to have a little weekend to try the recipe out of every category. I've got a whole lot to tell you about this cookbook, but I will be short – unless you try it, you won't be able to know how good it is.
  • Yummy – get this cookbook, you won’t regret it. Yes, some of the recipes need to be edited a little bit to fit your tastes or dietary permissions but mainly they are just solid good, and you won’t be able to tell between your foods and the meals from a local restaurant in a timely manner. My very first recipe was Egg white chips and no matter how weird this snack sounds, it was delicious.
  • The air fryer recipes in this cookbook never disappoint. Tasty and easy-to-make recipes with fresh and healthy ingredient – what more can you wish from a cookbook. Sometimes I notice that timing is off in certain cases but that's probably me – I've never been quite quick of a cook. The book is warm and friendly yet informative, leaving you to wonder, what else can you do to improve your cooking skills.
  • The price of this cookbook is completely worth it (besides, I got my e-book on sale). Now I'm going to get a paperback version for the full price because I think this is one of the best air fryer cookbooks on the market. Some of the dishes rivaled what I've had in restaurants – for example, the herbed tomatoes appetizer. Completely enjoyable and healthy too.
  • Everything you need to know is there on Air Fryer Cookbook! This book is really great 550 Recipes for Everyday Meals! I am glad about this book! Well worth buying!!
  • The book is composed genuinely available, read effortlessly. I was read this book. I took in a good deal of fascinating data about Air Fryer cooking. Well written by author.
  • Being a relatively good cook, I rarely use cooking books, but running out of ideas I decided to shift my principles and went for this book to find out whether it will be of any good to me. Turns out it absolutely is! I've tried about half a dozen recipes so far, and they were not only pleasing but mouth-watering and perfectly suitable for the air fryer I currently own. Prior to purchasing this book, I tried to prepare a couple of recipes from the "Look Inside" section, and they were good enough for me to pay for the paperback and copy. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

"Our world then was both wide and narrow -- wide in the immensity of sea and mountain; narrow in that the boat was very small, and we lived and camped, explored and swam in a little realm of our own making."
-- M. Wylie Blanchet

The 50th anniversary edition of this coastal British Columbia classic, now in beautifully illustrated hardcover, will make a timeless keepsake. This is a biography and astonishing adventure story of a woman who, left a widow in 1927, packed her five children onto a 25-foot boat and cruised the coastal waters of British Columbia, summer after summer. Muriel Wylie Blanchet acted single-handedly as skipper, navigator, engineer and, of course, mother, as she saw her crew through encounters with tides, fog, storms, rapids, cougars and bears. She sharpened in her children a special interest in Haida culture and in nature itself.

In this book, she left us with a sensitive and compelling account of their journeys.

"Read the book for a book group gathering in Iowa that included a friend who grew up on Vancouver Island and who joined us for the discussion. While I've paddled a canoe in the Queen Charlotte Strait, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the nautical terms and experience. I wished for a better map and more detail on how the kids fared as adults. Otherwise, I loved the stories and was delighted by this adventurous and brilliant captain/mother. The author captures the wildness and dangers of land and sea, and gives a nod to indigenous people, explorers and settlers."

The Curve of Time M Blanchet Gray Campbell Timothy Egan 9781770500372 Books Reviews

  • A very interesting book in several regards. The concept of time curve was minor to the story but a twist to telling the story that was thought provoking . Combining the experience of 15 years of family cruises into one story line that could easily have been assumed to be one voyage was well done. This moved the story along rapidly and smoothly. For those with knowledge of, or an interest in, the Canadian gulf islands, desolation sound, and adjoining waters, this book provides a view into the historic experience of cruising this area, and the culture of First Nation peoples of this area and the early European nautical explorers. A highly engaging book, leading to a quick read.
  • I originally found Ms. Blanchet's book in a bibliography for an obscure book on kayaking and read it purely on speculation. I had no idea what I stumbled into. Now, having read it two more times and giving it as a gift on several occasions, I can say this is truly one of the most special books ever written.

The stories of Ms. Blanchet and her children sailing up the Inside Passage during the 20's and 30's captured me in two ways. First was this mysterious window into a world long gone. Ancient native villages still looking as if their residents just left, lonely hermits on remote islands, a land unspoiled. Second was the story of a woman with and amazing strength and humble spirit. How she managed to use her dingy to tow the incapacitated power boat, disassemble the engine, then fix and restart a broken magneto is unbelievable, yet obviously true. I was inspired over and over again as has everyone I have given it to.

I have space for exactly four favorite books in my library, I won't add another one unless one is removed. The Curve of Time will always be one of the four.
  • Absolutely lovely! I discovered this book on a trip to British Columbia and fell in love with the endearing stories. Blanche writes about her summers with her children traveling up and down the coast of British Columbia in their small trawler. She writes of a time gone by when life was abit more simple even if complex. Highly recommend.
  • An interesting read if you are familiar with the islands located within the inside passage of Vancouver Island and mainland B.C.. I've been to many of the locations the author covers in her book. At time a bit on the "folksy" side but still an interesting read about one tough lady who take herself and four young children on several on summer boating adventures in the waters off the B.C. Coast. .
  • This is a fabulous book!! I have first read it years back, and recently took a freighter cruise in the same area. This was one brave and great mother for her children who accompanied her on the adventures. I decided to purchase a copy of this book so I could re-read it every now and then.
  • I gave this book 5 stars because it is a book full of stories, illustrated with lovely descriptions about the travels of a unique woman who chose to spend her summers exploring the shores of Vancouver island, the mainland and the many islands in between. Her writing is vivid, insightful and riveting. Great read!
  • I read this book while cruising on a boat in the same waters Ms. Blanchet writes about. In many ways and places, only the years have changed and the landscapes and history remain relatively untouched by today's rapid change.
Not only are the stories of her travels with her children on her late husband's boat interesting, but her writing and her perspective for the times are as fresh and current as if written just recently.
I have gifted this book many times. It was gifted to me. This is a volume which sticks with you from the day you read it. When you gift it, you need to go back and read all or part again, just to take you back.
As a woman filled with wanderlust and independence, Muriel Wylie Blanchet is one of my heros.
I recommend this book highly to anyone who not only loves the outdoors, the waters of Vancouver and BC, but to any person who loves the spirit of adventure based on real life experience--not a made for TV event.
  • Read the book for a book group gathering in Iowa that included a friend who grew up on Vancouver Island and who joined us for the discussion.

An Charts and Washington Post bestseller.

In an unforgettable love story, a woman’s impossible journey through the ages could change everything…

Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time.

The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar. Mistaken for the boy’s long-missing mother, Anne adopts her identity, convinced the woman’s disappearance is connected to her own.

As tensions rise, Thomas joins the struggle for Ireland’s independence and Anne is drawn into the conflict beside him. Caught between history and her heart, she must decide whether she’s willing to let go of the life she knew for a love she never thought she’d find. But in the end, is the choice actually hers to make?

"This was such a special read... so much more than an exquisite romance... Amy Harmon has weaved a tale intertwining past and present Ireland, mixing historical facts with ordinary people’s lives. It is also a love letter about her ancestors' homeland and the incredible bond of family through the ages.

Thomas and Anne were clearly destined soulmates. The feelings they have for each other were utterly divine. ‘What the Wind Knows’ uses a mix of fictional characters and real historical figures, the reader is given a gripping glimpse of what it would have been like living in such severe times in Ireland in the early 1920’s.

The core of the story is about Anne Gallagher who is unexpectedly given a chance to understand where she came from. Anne has found professional success and acclaim as an author, but her career has dominated her life for far too long. Suddenly however this strong and steady man in front of her is showing her the importance of family.

Thomas is an amazing character, he is soulful and kind and his deep and abiding love for Anne is so passionate in his journal entries it was a delight to read. Together they made such a wonderful couple and I enjoyed getting to know them.

‘What the Wind Knows’ is truly a gem of a book. It shows that love is timeless. It will make your heart want to explode. This story is beautiful, magical and it’s a wonderful experience. A definite must read!

What the Wind Knows edition by Amy Harmon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • 5+++ Stars!!!!!

This book has ruined me for all other books! I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened and my poor heart! How can it ache SO GOOD and SO BAD?! This was a beautiful story of love, loss, family and patriotism with one of the most unique storylines and had me feeling EVERYTHING!

The concept of time travel has always fascinated me but it is certainly a difficult topic to get perfectly right, whether in movies or books. Many times there are inconsistencies and plot holes. Not in this book. Amy Harmon got it right. I mean she NAILED it! I honestly had no idea how perfect it was until the very end. The author carries us on a spectacular time travel journey filled with love and loss. It was like a puzzle that you were trying to solve piece by piece and the anticipation of seeing the whole picture will have you thoroughly enthralled.

This book is very rich in history and our heroine Anne gets pulled back to Ireland in 1921 at the cusp of the Irish Civil War. First of all let me just say I am not a history buff. Before reading this book I certainly had no interest in what Ireland went through to gain her Independence. However, you cannot help but be fascinated with Amy's story telling. She weaves the tale of these heroic men and women who fought for Ireland's liberation from Great Britain and I could feel their pride and I wept for what it cost them to achieve their independence. As Anne learns firsthand about the country of her ancestors and lives the events that she only read about in "her time", you can't help but be caught up in the fascination of it all. The details in this book are phenomenal and you cannot help but respect the level of research that must have gone into the writing of this novel.

The love Ann and Thomas discover in each other takes them both by surprise. Ann finds herself in love with a man in the past and is at war with what decisions to make. Their love was gradual but intense and passionate. Thomas was such a great man. He was a kind and generous soul but also smart and brave. He risked his life for his family and his country. He loved Anne with such fervor and their path was so gut wrenching but so beautiful! Their love story was simply epic!

There were so many amazing characters in this book that each played their role in what unfolded in this story. Everything about this book was beautifully complex. It makes you realize we are a part of something so much bigger than ourselves. Time became irrelevant. Love became important. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time to come. I know it's only January but I know this will be one of my favorite reads of 2019. Well done Amy Harmon!

  • "What the Wind Knows" is a blend of a romantic novel and historical fiction, with a little fantasy mixed in. Hard core fans of any of these genres might object to the blend. For my own tastes, the book achieved a nice balance. I've read romance novels that are too separate from the world and historical fiction that is too immersed in the factual details.

The plot was cleverly woven. The transitions between history and fiction were excellent visible enough that the reader could recognize the history, and seamless enough that the story flowed smoothly. The fantasy device of time travel was executed with little explanation or fuss, adding a little mystery to the plot. The plot ingredients added up to an interesting and gripping story, though it falls short of being a "thriller".

The three main characters were drawn carefully and they were appealing. Their actions were consistent with their personalities. The several minor characters (including the historical ones) were likewise interesting and distinct.

The writing was clear. The action was vividly presented and the introspections didn't overly impede the advancement of the plot.

The advantage of the blend of genres is that the history was conveyed in the context of "real" personalities. I think the author did a good job of conveying the political and emotional cross currents at a time of turbulent developments in Ireland.

Profanity and sex were relatively mild, a plus for me.

I enjoyed the book. I recommend it for readers who enjoy a little history combined with a good tale.

Taking place nearly a century before the events of A Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R. R. Martin's ongoing masterwork, A Song of Ice and Fire. These never-before-collected adventures recount an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living consciousness.

Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne, there were Dunk and Egg. A young, naïve, but ultimately courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals - in stature if not experience. Tagging along is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg - whose true name (hidden from all he and Dunk encounter) is Aegon Targaryen. Though more improbable heroes may not be found in all of Westeros, great destinies lie ahead for these two...as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a must-have collection that proves chivalry isn't dead - yet.

"I've often wanted to review the A Song of Ice and Fire books on this website but, really, there's nothing I could possibly say about them which other websites have not said and better. Likewise, there's no point in bringing more attention to the novels because they're already some of the most famous in fantasy. It's pretty much the same with the spin-offs as there's not much point in talking about Game of Thrones since everyone and their brother is watching that show.

I've made an exception for Telltale's Game of Thrones because that's a side-story but this is the first book I feel comfortable recommending which might have slipped under fans' radars. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a compilation of three novellas (The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight) written by George R.R. Martin for various anthologies.

The premise is a young hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (a self-granted title since his master never knighted him), takes on a squire named Egg after the death of his mentor Ser Arlan. A hedge knight is a knight with no prestige or lineage but has the training as well as equipment to be a mounted soldier in the Seven Kingdoms. At the absolute bottom of the social hierarchy's warrior class but still part of it, Duncan has a unique perspective on events occurring in the century before A Game of Thrones.

The three novellas take place in a very different Westeros from the one described in the books because the Targaryens are still at, if not the height of the rule then some distance from their twilight. The lands have been at peace for a decade and the nobility, if not following the example of chivalry in spirit, is at least trying to follow the example of chivalry in appearance. In a very real way, the book serves as an argument for a Targaryen Restoration because it shows everyone more or less getting along and the peasants able to live reasonably secure lives.

George R.R. Martin, the father of grimdark, still treats the Medieval romance with a good deal of disdain but it's not nearly as cynical in many respects. Ser Duncan's basic decency makes him a far better knight than those born into the role but the absence of Gregor Cleganes, Boltons, Bloody Mummers, and even Lannisters make the villains of a decidedly more sympathetic bent. They're still very realistic fantasy with only the occasional prophetic dream keeping it from being absent magic together but the heart of the stories is a peasant-born warrior trying to navigate the complicated social dynamics of Westeros' knightly class.

The Hedge Knight is, in a weird way, not that dissimilar from Heath Ledger's A Knight's Tale. Duncan is a peasant knight from Fleabottom who has a vision of becoming a famous warrior after Ser Arlan's death. Unfortunately, Ser Duncan lacks William Thatcher's godlike skill with a lance and swiftly finds himself in hot water with a Targaryen prince. In a very real way, this is a sports story and the deadly stakes of the event make it all the more entertaining to read about. Of the three, The Hedge Knight is my least favorite as I never really found that much interest in jousting and its central role in peacetime Medieval life.

The Sworn Sword is a follow up to The Hedge Knight where Duncan has managed to find himself as an actual proper sworn knight to a lord--sort of. Having taken up service to a lord of something which barely qualifies as a tower, Duncan ends up caught up in a conflict between his lord and the beautiful widow across the river. The central conflict turns out to be not one of good and evil but the legacy of a war which had, to quote George Lucas, heroes on both sides. I like how it managed to take a very Medieval concept of fighting for a ladies' honor and play it straight while also illustrating how absurd it was.

The Mystery Knight is, bluntly, one of my favorite stories in fantasy. I've re-read this novella five times and am probably going to do so again. It's a story with a lot of parallels to Bonnie Prince Charlie's revolt and is basically a Medieval spy novel set against the backdrop of a tournament. I love the characters of Lord Butterwell, the Fiddler, and Fireball's bastard. They are eccentric, larger than life, and yet believable. I also loved finally getting a chance to meet

These stories are, obviously, going to be enjoyed more by fans of the books than by the show. Aside from the possible relationship between Duncan and Brienne, many of the details of the history will fly by television viewers. Despite this, I think they would be enjoyable even to those who have no experience with the world. Fans of grimdark will find the stories a good deal more idealistic and pleasant but still possessed of the moral ambiguity as well as "realism" which made the original books so enjoyable.

The chief draw of the books for me is the relationship between Ser Duncan and Egg. Duncan is, to be honest, dumb but decent while Egg is highly-intelligent and somewhat more ruthless than his master. The contrast between their social positions, viewpoints, and attitudes provides an endless array of interesting conversations. It's kind of sad I know how their story works out due to The World of Ice and Fire but their tale is one I could follow through its own series. They're hilarious, insightful, and fun together--and what more can you ask from your heroes?

In conclusion, I really really recommend this book. I almost wish George R.R. Martin would take more time from The Winds of Winter to do more of these stories. They're fun, light, and entertaining reads which deserve to be looked into. This version of the story is illustrated and while I tend to prefer the comic book versions of these story, it lends a sort of "Illustrated King Arthur" feel to things.

  • Story
This book is actually three books merged into one. Taking place a century before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire, the story follows Ser Duncan, a man who was recently knighted before his master passed away. While traveling to a tourney, he meets a bald boy named Egg who, despite Duncan's efforts to have it otherwise, becomes his squire. Duncan learns some surprising things while at the tourney, but ends up making a name for himself in front of the Targaryans, who are the family of kings and queens in Westeros. Afterwards, he and Egg have several adventures, including trying to help a disgraced lord save his lands and his smallfolk (peasants) from a drought while a rival house is taking all the resources, and participating in a tourney while looking for a performer that is hinted that Duncan might have feelings for. Underneath it all is the threat of the embers of a rebellion that had been beaten years ago, but is struggling to rise to power again. Will Duncan and Egg be able to help the Seven Kingdoms?
I was pleased to see another story that takes place in Westeros, and isn't part of the main series. It helps add to the world's history, and allows us to see characters we read about in The World of Ice and Fire to get some attention. While not as intense as the series A Song of Ice and Fire, it still has that flare of Martin's to explore real people facing real medieval problems. The illustrations done by Gary Gianni also help bring this world and time period to life. It's definitely worth reading.
    Caution
Some swearing, including some uses of the F-word. Some violence and gore. Some people are seen naked in some of the illustrations (though one is the result of a dream and another is part of a marriage ceremony in Westeros).
    Lessons
Honor and nobility are found in the heart. You can find good people in unexpected places. The Devil will try to strike us when we are not expecting it.
  • I’m not the type of reviewer that uses flowery words or gives a blow by blow account of what makes this a book not to be read. Suffice it to say Ser Duncan is delightful to follow as an everyday common hero. Egg is terrific. Most of all Martin writes here in a style of old that flows like water and goes down smooth. He lets you chuckle when appropriate while painting a picture so vivid it fills the room. I couldn’t put it down and that’s the best compliment I can give a writer.

PS I also enjoyed the illustrations - it’s a shame that is not used in more books
  • The adventures of Dunk and Egg may not feature any of the characters we know from the other series (although there are a couple cameos), but this is still the world of Westeros and I still love reading about it. Martin has promised more in this storyline, but my hope is he expands the plot to novel-length rather than giving us a book of three or four short stories. One thing readers may appreciate in this book, over the ASOIAF series, is that there is less tragedy and, since the lives of our two heroes are already "written" as it were, the reader does not have to worry about them dying in a bloody mess (at least not until they are much, much older). There is also notably no sex in these stories, and very little profanity. While not written for a young audience, the book is different from his other novels in that respect.

DK Eyewitness Travel Guide Paris 2019 EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDES eBook DK Travel Reviews

  • My husband and I are avid travelers, having been to Europe over 25 times, and many other places in the world as well. I always buy the DK books as I’ve loved the bright photo format, with detailed blowouts of major sites, and great walks, with enough description to get me excited. I have over 30 of their books. And I buy Rick Steves for the wordsy format with lots of great tips on skipping lines and good walks etc. The new 2019 DK version is a cheap facsimile, with half the pictures on thin matte paper with dull colors. They tried to expand the areas to visit, which I can appreciate, but with 10 days in Paris, we’re hitting our favorite areas. This guide might be better for someone who lives in Paris and wants to visit the outer arrondissements. Sorry DK, your attempt here missed the mark. I’m grabbing the 2018 Paris version before they’re gone.
  • Quality photos on matte pages.
Improved a lot since the 2005 version with its glossy pages that smudged when I highlighted them.
This book is informative (to newbie travelers like myself), and looks great at the same time.
    Oragnized by neighborhood.
Maps give a good visual. There is a paris metro map included in the back flap of the book, which I appreciate.
  • Small spaces. Poor coloring. There is a small disappointing flatness on every page.
I used to love this guide. My husband and I bought it almost every year. This edition is terrible, dull, and mediocre.
What have you done to us?
  • I have a good many other DK guides to Europe and elsewhere, which I enjoy greatly. However, this version of your Paris material is uninspiring and poorly done. The photos are lacking in clarity and the copy is flat. There isn't enough of it to engage the reader. Plus, you reduced the number of pages, which means you cut out a lot of interesting material. For me this is too great a departure from your previous works for me to recommend to anyone. Buy an earlier edition if any are available. Just disappointing. I'd return it, but I've already pulled off the map!
  • I love the DK Eyewitness travel books and this one didn't disappoint. It's chockful of helpful information for planning a trip to Paris and will be great to have on the trip.
  • The new 2019 Paris guide was a big disappointment!!
I have many DK travel guides. Now these guides will be like all the others(
  • Awesome as usual
  • Perfect book for my next trip to Paris

From New York Times best-selling authors Michael I. Bennett, MD and Sarah Bennett--a book for teens that shows readers that we all deal with crap in our lives and how to laugh at some of the things we can't control.

Being a teenager can suck. Your friends can become enemies, and your enemies can become friends. Your family can drive you crazy. School and teachers can be a drag. Your body is constantly changing. And everyone seems to tell you to "just be you." But just who is that?

With their open and honest approach, father-daughter team Michael I. Bennett and Sarah Bennett's book is sure to appeal to teenagers and show them they aren't alone in dealing with fake friends, with parents who think they're "hip," and even how high school isn't everyone's glory days. Young readers--and their parents--are sure to find this no-nonsense, real-life advice helpful, and it will help them realize that it's okay to talk to their parents and other advisors around them about big issues that might be uncomfortable to discuss.
