- I could never "crack" Augustine whenever I'd wade into CONFESSIONS, Think it was the archaic language and his super-detailed thinking. Chanced upon CONFESSIONS OF ST. AUGUSTINE THE MODERN ENGLISH VERSION. Contemporary language and abridged format of that edition finally opened up the work for me. Bought this Cliffs Notes just in case I needed help understanding CONFESSIONS. Great! Cliff Notes writer helped when I needed to check if I was following a particular point correctly.
